The “It’s Not That Bad Scenario” and Other Blocks to Getting Help
“It’s not that bad”
You don’t have to wait until it’s “that bad” to do things differently. Therapy can be a place to start making sense of things that are confusing, where you can learn to manage your fears or to just say the things you’re afraid to say.
“I’m not the one with the problem”
Since you are on this page, on this website, you are probably looking for answers to something that is causing you pain. Sometimes it’s hard to put it into words or find a way to explain it. You are looking for ways to make things better because you have DONE ALL you could and you are running out of options and/or resources. You want answers to make sense of it all. You want to feel hopeful again.
You are not the one with the addiction but the addiction affects you just as much, if not more.
“What would people say?”
Our work together is confidential – except in matters of suicide or homicide, meaning if you have thoughts of wanting to hurt yourself or someone else, or in matters of child or elder abuse (which is all meant to protect and keep people safe), I am required by my license to make a report. We will talk more about this when we meet especially if you have questions.
